V2 No.2: "The wonderful old black Babson stallion
Fabo was put down on November 15th, 1992. He enjoyed
a long and happy life, with good health until the
last day, running around his paddock, asserting his
dominance over the farm. On the morning of the 15th,
he apparently suffered the first of a series of strokes.
Fortunately assistance was available and he suffered
very little.
Fabo was the last producing
Saqlawi-Jidran. His close relative Khemahr (Fa-Serr
x Khedena) was last reported as living but without
having foals for some time. The only other living
Babson Saqlawi is AK Bint Serra, a beautiful and kind
mare who barely survived her first foaling, ironically
a son of Fabo who was to have been Fabo's replacement.
Efforts are still being made to return her to production.
Fabo sired 22 Sheykh
Obeyd Foundation foals, with one more due in 1992
to a *Fakher El Din daughter, the beautiful Akira
Zarif. He is well represented within Sheykh Obeyd
Foundation lines by both his sons and daughters.
Fabo led about as good
a life as a horse can hope for - his early years as
a family pet, at the age of 15 he was purchased by
Don Austin and Walter Schimanski and used as a major
sire at Masada Arabians. He was loved, admired and
used throughout his 29 years. Being part of his life
was truly a privilege. Fabo was quite a horse - a
true Arab in all respects."
From an interview in
The Khamsat, V4 No. 2 Walter Schimanski recalls:
"Fabo was acquired in 1975 in order to intensify the
Saqlawi part of the breeding program at Masada Arabians.
Fabo not only brought new personality to the farm
but he also added a big eye, more leg, and beautiful
shoulders and necks."
Fabo is a 7/8 brother
to SABRAH,
dam of 4 National winners. He is also the sire of
legion of merit winners FA LODI++ and FA RAMBO
